Technological innovation
In the process of railway station yard renovation, China Railway No.6 Engineering Group Jian’an Construction Co., Ltd. has taken “safety and reliability, comprehensive functionality, and cultural heritage” as its goals. Leveraging over 10 technological and management innovations, it has propelled the large-scale station yard steel structure canopies from the “functional repair” phase to the “smart renewal” phase, injecting technological momentum into the high-quality development of railway infrastructure.
Digital technology restructures the entire construction process. In the past, the renovation of steel canopies at stations often suffered delays due to a wide range of material specifications and significant deviations between drawings and actual site conditions. Nowadays, the project team has deeply integrated 3D laser scanning and BIM technology to conduct millimeter-level data collection for 12,000 irregular steel components and over 3,000 complex nodes of the canopy, building a 1:1 digital model. By comparing design data with measured data, it is possible to accurately locate processing errors, reducing on-site rectification rates by over 60%. The digital command center integrates AI visual recognition and IoT sensing technology, enabling real-time monitoring of high-altitude work safety and equipment operation, and automatically warning against “three violations” (operations against rules, regulations, and procedures). With BIM simulation of processes and optimized transportation routes, construction efficiency has increased by 40% at each stage. The renovation of two platforms was completed in just 110 days without affecting the daily average passenger flow of 187,700 people. The “BIM + QR code” one-code system has achieved full-process traceability for 23,000 materials, enhancing management efficiency and accuracy.
Green technology addresses construction challenges during the operational phase. To avoid disrupting railway operations, the project innovatively adopted a “segmented insulation + rigid suspension” catenary renovation scheme, which increased the efficiency of skylight point operations by 40%. Work that originally required three skylight points to complete can now be done with just two skylight points. The dual-circuit temporary power supply system ensured zero interruption of station lighting and customer service equipment during the construction period. To address the difficulty of rust removal from steel structures, laser rust removal (dust-free) and water sandblasting rust removal (to prevent thermal damage) techniques were employed, along with automatic rust removal robots, tripling the efficiency and achieving factory processing levels. The hidden danger of snow accumulation on the roof in winter was also addressed, with an integrated system of aluminum alloy snow guards and fall protection devices that not only prevent snow from sliding off but also provide safety for maintenance personnel. The composite metal roof panels ensure waterproofing to Grade I standards, solving the leakage problem.
Integrated construction and maintenance empowers long-term operation. The project introduces the concept of “integrated construction and maintenance” and establishes a full lifecycle intelligent management system. Over 500 sensors deployed at key locations of the steel structure canopy enable real-time monitoring of truss deflection, steel column stress, and other data. Through digital twin modeling, the structural health status is analyzed, providing early warnings of potential safety hazards. The intelligent lighting system can automatically adjust the platform illumination based on light conditions, reducing energy consumption by 30% and saving approximately 800,000 yuan in electricity bills annually. The integrated installation of customer service equipment has reduced the number of canopy suspenders by 60%, enhancing cleanliness and lowering maintenance costs. Simultaneously, the project incorporates cultural elements such as traditional arched windows and glazed tiles from the station into the canopy ceiling, and restores the platform with water-coated sand imitation stone paint and sandstone paintings, achieving a “restoration that looks like the original.” This not only preserves the historical ambiance but also enhances service capabilities and meets the travel needs of passengers.
